Daily Deviations
They have been fixed.
They're broken. We (the GDs) haven't been able to post any for pretty much the entire week, so the ones you see popping up are ones that were posted pre-bug. However, they're working on the bug and, hopefully, we'll be able to start posting new DD selections very soon. Until then, we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Give Away of the Day!
Congratulations to everyone who was able to download this useful new software. I use a few different types of planning software, but Story Binder was a lot of fun to play with. MS Word and Notepad and Wordpad are grand, but when you're plotting something a little larger, they're not as practical--at least for my ues. So, thanks again to $
fangedfem!
I'd like to turn your attention to today's "GotD": Liquid Story Binder XE 2.91. You can download this wonderful program for free, but there's a catch. You only have about ten hours (as of the time this journal is relased) to complete the download. Tomorrow, the offer will be gone.
Well, what're you waiting for? Get on it!
Appreciating the Truth
Before we move into the next phase of Nonfiction Month, I'd like to draw some attention to my most recent
poll. It would appear that deviantART, during its update, hit a bit of a snag with the polls; it's clear that the poll didn't show up in very many deviant message centers as I would've liked. So, if you are so inclined, kindly take a moment to vote on the following:
Please understand that I am more interested in comments to support your poll answer than I am in the actual poll answer itself, so if you could take a moment to explain why you voted the way you did, I would greatly appreciate the effort.

The News
The next mode of writing we're tackling for Nonfiction Month is journalism--more specifically, article writing. You can expect an informative feature in the dA News by Monday at the latest but, before we get to that, I'd like to introduce a contest concept (or two) and see what you'd be more (or most) interested in. Your feedback is invaluable, so please offer your opinions if you have the time!
Editorials are difficult; I won't lie. However, with the election coming up in the United States and the world going through some very interesting issues and changes, from the economy to war to more local problems, I was wondering if deviants would be interested in a
Political Editorial Contest. Now, I know the shitstorm this can create, so there will be guidelines for submission as well as suggestions for commenting and critique, but I really would like to see our writing community branch out from the internet bubble and write intelligently about real-world issues. So, what do you think? Too ambitious? Inappropriate? Not worth the hassle? Worth a shot? Should there be topic categories (politics, economy, war, local issues, etc.) or an open-call, open-submission free-for-all sort of thing? Let me know!
devMEETS are becoming more and more popular, especially during the summer or more traditional holiday months. With that in mind (and right in-line with the article-writing information that's about to come out), I would love to run a feature or traditional article contest that has deviants reporting on devMEETS. This, too, is another way to make dA a little more relevant to the real world, and I find such value in that. So, what do you think of that? Is there an interest? Would anyone bother? Does the idea suck? Please tell!
Feature articles are a wonderful combination of fact and poetry, and I would love to see more feature articles in the Nonfiction section of dA. With this in mind, I wonder if people would be interested in writing feature, informative articles on places they've visited or places they live. This, too, helps to bring our worldwide community together by providing a chance to educate others about where you live and why it's unique--while also reminding others that, in the end, many places are also very similar. So: thoughts? Would anyone be interested in something like that? Feedback, please!

Me
Well, I'm back from Boston. Boston is my kind of town. I have also taken the job offer discussed previously, which changes my title to International Commissions Editor--a rather fancy way of saying I get to travel around the world talking to people about their book proposals. I have a tremendous team underneath me and plenty of prospects on the horizon, and I am incredibly excited to have this opportunity. Mind you, we're still in negotiations about where I am going to live, but I think a compromise may be forthcoming.

Strict, clear guidelines and at least a few categories would make a great contest.
Count me in for sure.

I am not your anything. I just am.
It would also be nice to educate people on what, exactly, and editorial is, much like your news article, but through example. Plus the guidelines on critque and editorial writing is a good idea, but it would also help to bring some of these issue to light (like the rampant use of fallacious arguments).
Though I would support one large contest, I would imagine that could become quite cluttered. Perhaps smaller contests could be hosted by other deviants that would focus on specific topics.
Again, I would agree that reporting on the devmeets would be a nice idea. I don't know who exactly would participate, but I'm sure there would be someone more than willing to help. Like you said, it would be a great way to expose the site to the world and vice versa.
Once again, I like the idea, espcially since I'm leaving for Northern Arizona University in August. I could certainly keep some sort of log or report going of my time there for the next two years. Plus, it'd be interesting how I could write about my hometown.
Overall, I love these ideas and you can expect my support in many of them.
Congradulations on your job! I'm quite envious actually, but I guess I have to finish my schooling first. (By the way, I'm majoring in International Affairs). Whatever happens, I hope you have a great time and good luck! Now I'm off to your poll...
